Comprehensive Treatment Modalities and Programs at RHAD Healthcare

At RHAD Healthcare, our dedication to providing cutting-edge, comprehensive behavioral health services is reflected in our diverse array of treatment modalities and specialized programs. Our approach combines traditional therapeutic techniques with innovative technologies to offer personalized care that meets the complex needs of our patients.

Advanced Treatment Modalities

  1. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS): This non-invasive treatment uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain to improve symptoms of depression and other neurological conditions.
  2. Audio Visual Entrainment (AVE): AVE utilizes visual and auditory stimulation to induce states of relaxation and has been effective in treating anxiety, depression, and PTSD.
  3. Exercise With Oxygen Therapy (EWOT): This enhances oxygen consumption during exercise, improving energy, and promoting better mental health.
  4. Electroencephalography (EEG) Devices: Used both diagnostically and therapeutically, EEG measures electrical activity in the brain to guide treatments for conditions like epilepsy, sleep disorders, and brain injuries.
  5. Light Therapy Boxes: Used primarily for treating seasonal affective disorder (SAD) and certain other conditions by exposure to artificial light, mimicking natural sunlight.
  6. Neurofeedback: A type of biofeedback that uses real-time displays of brain activity to teach self-regulation of brain function, often used for ADHD, anxiety, and other disorders.
  7. Vibration Therapy: This modality uses mechanical vibrations that are applied to the body to improve bone density, muscle strength, and circulation, and to reduce pain and inflammation.
  8. Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) or Photobiomodulation (PBM): This uses low-level wavelengths of light to treat various musculoskeletal conditions, promoting healing and pain relief.
  9. Virtual Reality (VR): Used for immersive therapy sessions that help patients confront fears and rehearse situations in a controlled environment, beneficial for anxiety disorders and PTSD.
  10. Transcranial Alternating Current Stimulation (tACS) and Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) Devices: These are forms of neurostimulation that use electrical currents to stimulate specific parts of the brain, used in the treatment of mood disorders, rehabilitation after stroke, and cognitive enhancement.

Specialized Treatment Programs

  • Narcotic Addiction Treatment (NAT) and Alcohol Addiction Treatment (AAT): These programs offer comprehensive services from detoxification to aftercare, incorporating Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), counseling, and support groups to address substance use disorders.

  • Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT): This program focuses on identifying and challenging negative thought patterns and behaviors to improve emotional regulation and develop personal coping strategies.

MAT (Medication-Assisted Treatment)

MAT combines the use of FDA-approved medications with counseling and behavioral therapies to treat substance use disorders. This holistic approach helps address the needs of the individual as a whole. MAT is primarily used to treat addiction to opioids such as heroin and prescription pain relievers that contain opiates. The medications used in MAT are designed to normalize brain chemistry, block the euphoric effects of alcohol and opioids, relieve physiological cravings, and stabilize body functions without the negative effects of the abused drug. Common medications used in MAT include:

  • Methadone: Reduces opioid cravings and withdrawal and blunts or blocks the effects of opioids.
  • Buprenorphine: Reduces or eliminates opioid withdrawal symptoms, including drug cravings, without producing the high or dangerous side effects of the drugs it replaces.
  • Naltrexone: Blocks the euphoric and sedative effects of opioids and helps prevent relapse.

MOUD (Medications for Opioid Use Disorder)

MOUD refers specifically to the use of medications to manage opioid addiction. It is a subset of MAT focused solely on opioid disorders. MOUD aims to increase the accessibility and integration of medication treatment into healthcare settings that provide services to individuals with opioid use disorder. MOUD includes the same medications as mentioned under MAT, tailored specifically for opioid addiction:

  • Methadone
  • Buprenorphine
  • Naltrexone

Both MAT and MOUD emphasize the importance of comprehensive treatment plans that include not only medications but also access to behavioral therapies and support from health care providers, counselors, and peer support groups. This approach is supported by substantial research evidence showing its efficacy in improving patient survival, retaining people in treatment, decreasing illicit opiate use and other criminal activity among people with substance use disorders, and increasing patients' ability to gain and maintain employment.

Our services are designed to support individuals dealing with opioid use disorders as well as other substance use issues. Here are the specifics of what we include in our programs:

  1. Methadone: As part of our MAT program, we provide methadone treatment which helps reduce opioid cravings and withdrawal symptoms. This medication is administered under the supervision of our qualified medical staff in a controlled setting to ensure safety and efficacy.
  2. Buprenorphine: We offer buprenorphine as part of both our MAT and MOUD programs. This medication can be prescribed in our clinic or, depending on individual circumstances, may be taken at home. Buprenorphine helps to minimize withdrawal symptoms without the high associated with opioid use.
  3. Naltrexone: Available in both a pill form and as a monthly injection, naltrexone is part of our treatment offerings. It works by blocking the effects of opioids at receptor sites in the brain and is used primarily for preventing relapse into opioid abuse.

In addition to these pharmacological treatments, our programs include:

  • Individual and Group Counseling: To address psychological and behavioral aspects of addiction.
  • Behavioral Therapies: Such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) that help manage drug triggers and stress.
  • Support Services: Including case management and access to social services to assist with housing, employment, and education needs.
  • Aftercare and Relapse Prevention: Strategies to maintain sobriety and prevent relapse.

Our aim is to provide a holistic approach to treatment that supports our members not only through medications but also through comprehensive therapeutic and support services to foster recovery and improve quality of life.

This response effectively communicates the range of services provided by RHAD Healthcare under their MAT and MOUD programs, focusing on the medications offered and the additional support services included in the program.

1. Integrated Treatment Approach

Programs combine pharmacological treatments with psycho-social support. This dual approach addresses both the physiological and psychological aspects of substance use disorders, recognizing that long-term recovery often requires holistic intervention.

We believe in a comprehensive treatment model that synergizes pharmacological and psycho-social interventions. Recognizing the complexity of addiction, our programs provide a holistic path to recovery, catering to the individual needs of our patients through a seamless integration of medical treatment and therapeutic support.

2. Medications Used in MAT/MOUD

  • Methadone: Reduces cravings and withdrawal symptoms, is dispensed daily in a clinic setting.
  • Buprenorphine: Decreases withdrawal symptoms and cravings without producing a significant euphoric effect, can be prescribed in a doctor's office.
  • Naltrexone: Blocks the effects of opioids at receptor sites in the brain and is used primarily to prevent relapse; available in oral and injectable forms.

3. Behavioral Therapies

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Helps patients understand the behaviors and thoughts that lead to substance use and develop healthier coping mechanisms.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Useful particularly for individuals with dual diagnoses, focusing on improving emotional and cognitive regulation.
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI): Increases an individual’s motivation to change their behavior and adhere to treatment plans.

  • Family Therapy: Engages family members in the recovery process, improving family dynamics and support.

5. Continuing Care and Relapse Prevention

6. Case Management Services

These services facilitate access to medical, psychiatric, and social services, including housing, education, and employment support, enhancing the recovery environment.

7. Use of Technology

  • Telehealth Services: Provide ongoing support and counseling remotely, making treatment accessible for those who cannot attend in-person sessions.
  • Electronic Health Records (EHRs): Improve the coordination of care among healthcare providers.

8. Evidence-Based Screening and Assessment Tools

Use of standardized screening tools to accurately assess the level of substance use disorder and mental health concerns, guiding the personalized treatment plan.

9. Community Reinforcement Approach (CRA)

Encourages individuals to become involved in healthy, drug-free activities to replace substance-using activities.

10. Peer Support Services

Incorporating individuals who have experienced substance use disorders into the treatment process to provide unique support, mentorship, and advocacy to those in recovery.

These best practices and evidence-based approaches ensure that the treatment and support provided are not only effective but also adaptable to individual needs, leading to better outcomes in managing substance use disorders.
